So far, you have chosen your favorite company, you have investigated about its profile, you have written your cover letter now you are going to propose your project for that company.

What is a project proposal?



Project proposals are documents designed to present a plan of action, outline the reasons why the action is necessary, and convince the reader to agree with and approve the implementation of the actions recommended in the body of the document.

 Reading Strategy: Analysis of sections of the text

Task 1: These are the main sections of a project proposal: context (background), aim, related work, objective, scope and references. Please match each section with its corresponding purpose:

Context or Background

A
This section is absolutely vital. It shows awareness of literature, and prevents accusations of plagiarism.

-Insert “tag” in the main text, pointing to an entry in the reference list at the end of your document

-“In (Amos and Harding, 2004), the authors show that...”

Aim

B
This section sets the scene, lays the foundations or background to your project. Describe an opportunity or problem that the project is to address

-What's the problem?
- Why is the project being undertaken?
- Why is it interesting?

Related Work

C
This section contains a more specific description of how the aims will be achieved.

Goals/ Objectives

D
This section contains general statements about what you are trying to achieve.

Scope

E
The point of the section is to highlight work done by others that somehow ties in with your own work.

References

This section presents the work that needs to be accomplished to deliver a product, service, or result with the specified features and functions. Describe what phases of work will be undertaken.

- What will be the end result of the project?
-How are you going to solve the problem?
-What is your approach?


Task 2: Read the project proposal “Corn cobs help reduce pollution of the Medellín River”  and identify the different sections of the text.

   Reading Strategy: Analysis of Paragraphs:


Task 3:
- Underline or highlight the main idea of each paragraph with one color.
- Underline or highlight the secondary supporting ideas with another color.

- Write the topic of each paragraph on the margins of the text. Remember that the topic of a paragraph is expressed in key words or concepts. Ex: Environmental problems in Medellín
